But Researcher Magazine exists to do something deliberately different. Our editorial work is human-crafted.
The stories we publish are shaped by people who read, question, interpret, challenge and understand the research in front of them. We believe that matters.
JOURNALISM
Our journalism is written by people
Researcher Magazine does not exist to mass-produce content.
Our writers and editors engage with researchers, papers, ideas and evidence directly.
Articles are developed through human research, human interpretation and human editorial judgement.
We do not use generative AI to replace writers or manufacture finished editorial content.
The words you read are there because a person decided they belonged there.
UNDERSTANDING
Researchers deserve to be understood properly
Academic work is often complex, nuanced and highly specialised.
Compressing that work into an automated summary can remove exactly the details that matter most.
Context matters.
Limitations matter.
Methodology matters.
Uncertainty matters.
So does understanding what a researcher was actually trying to discover.
Our role is not simply to shorten research. It is to understand it well enough to communicate it properly.
That requires human judgement.
QUOTATIONS
We do not manufacture interviews
When Researcher Magazine publishes the thoughts, experiences or opinions of a researcher, those words should represent that person.
We do not create artificial quotations.
We do not invent interviews.
We do not use generative AI to simulate what someone might have said.
Where somebody is quoted, interviewed or represented, authenticity matters.
EVIDENCE
We do not manufacture evidence
AI-generated imagery can be visually compelling, but journalism and research communication depend upon audiences understanding what they are looking at.
We will not present synthetic material as genuine research evidence, experimental data, microscopy, medical imaging, photography or documentary material.
Where illustrative or conceptual imagery is used, it should not mislead readers about its origin or evidential status.
EDITING
Editorial judgement remains human
Researcher Magazine is edited by people.
Decisions about what deserves attention, how a subject should be approached, what context needs to be included and whether something is ready to publish are editorial decisions.
We do not believe those decisions should be delegated to an algorithm.
Technology may assist with ordinary administrative or production tasks where appropriate, but responsibility for the journalism itself remains firmly human.
PUBLISHING
Accuracy matters more than volume
Generative AI has made it possible to produce enormous quantities of content very quickly.
That is not our ambition.
Researcher Magazine is not trying to publish the most.
We are trying to publish work worth reading.
That means taking the time to check facts, understand research, ask questions and represent complex ideas fairly.
We would rather publish less and mean it.
VOICES
Original voices matter
Research is carried out by real people.
Behind every paper are years of work, uncertainty, experiments, setbacks, discoveries and decisions.
We want readers to encounter those people and their ideas, not an automated approximation of them.
Our writers bring their own judgement, curiosity and craft to that process.
Our researchers bring theirs.
That human exchange is a fundamental part of what Researcher Magazine is intended to preserve.
TECHNOLOGY
Technology can support the process without becoming the author
We are not opposed to technology.
Our teams use modern digital tools every day.
There may be limited circumstances where automated systems assist with practical tasks such as organisation, transcription, formatting, workflow or other administrative processes.
But there is an important distinction between using technology to support publishing and allowing technology to create the journalism itself.
For Researcher Magazine, that line matters.
ACCOUNTABILITY
We want readers to know there are people behind the page
Readers should be able to trust that somebody has taken responsibility for what they are reading.
A writer.
An editor.
A researcher.
A creative professional.
A person who can be questioned, corrected and held accountable.
That responsibility cannot be outsourced to a language model.
